I may have overestimated my ability to keep to a schedule. I'm becoming a true writer!
I'm going to have to make an effort to remember to keep this blog updated, even if it's basically just a journal right now. I want to create engagement habits because I am definitely not good at that. I tend to engage for awhile and then retreat into a shell for a period of time. I'm naturally an introvert so it's hard to keep up with social media and the like. But that's one of the things an independent author needs to do in order to build an audience and spread the word about their work.
And that's why I'm making an effort to stay engaged on here. Not for nefarious purposes or to "trick" an audience in any way. But to make sure my footprint is large enough that people see my stories and, hopefully, are interested enough to give them a read. This is the first step in teaching myself to be more comfortable with the marketing side of self publishing.
But before any of that happens, I have to write things that people want to read. The last few weeks have been tough in that regard. I've been sick with a bad cold so that didn't help my creativity, but I've also just been in a dead area in my writing. I just don't seem to have any good ideas or, if I do, I can't get them down the way I want. And my motivation has been crap.
But I need to work through that. I'm already starting to. I finished the second scene in Chapter Six this week and I really like it. I established a lot of back story with minimum exposition (which is always tough in the first novel of a sci-fi universe). I also got some work done on a short story that I'm planning on submitting to an anthology next month. I'm going to be concentrating on that one in the next few weeks since I'm under a submission deadline.
Anyway, that's it for now. As always, leave a comment on anything I can improve on.
Keep 'er sleazy...
